CLEVELAND (AP) — Mike Clevinger starts for Cleveland this afternoon when the Indians host Detroit. Michael Fulmer starts for the Tigers. The Indians will try to clinch their third straight AL Central title. They have a magic number of one. They can wrap up the division with a win over Detroit, or a loss by Minnesota at Kansas City.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs will try a closer-by-committee approach down the stretch after learning Pedro Strop (strohp) is out for the rest of the regular season because of a strained left hamstring. Strop had posted 11 saves since closer Brandon Morrow went on the disabled list in July. He hurt himself trying to beat out a double-play grounder this week.
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been activated from the disabled list but says he is limited for now to playing in the outfield and pinch-running. Judge has not played since July 26, when he broke his right wrist against Kansas City. Manager Aaron Boone says the team is a couple days from making a decision on at-bats for Judge in a simulated game, a step before he will hit in a game.
UNDATED (AP) — Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur) are listed as questionable for tomorrow’s NFL action. Rodgers suffered a knee injury in Green Bay’s 24-23 win over Chicago last Sunday, but he returned to throw for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Roethlisberger participated in Pittsburgh’s final practice yesterday after skipping two workouts due to a right elbow injury.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — No. 2 Clemson hosts Georgia Southern today as the Carolinas deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. A number of other games have been called off because of the weather, including South Carolina’s home game against Marshall.
