Here is the latest Big 12 Conference sports news from The Associated Press

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — No. 4 Ohio State’s last Saturday without Urban Meyer on the sideline will be against No. 15 TCU. It will be the toughest test for the Buckeyes during their coach’s three-game suspension. TCU hasn’t faced a disruptive defensive front like Ohio State. But the Buckeyes and their new starting quarterback also haven’t been challenged as they will be by TCU’s defense. Ohio State is back in the stadium where it won the national title four seasons ago, and finished last year winning the Cotton Bowl.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Southern California-Texas rematch was supposed to be an early-season blockbuster. But both programs are already struggling. Now it feels more like a fight for survival, and the pressure is mounting to get a win to keep their seasons from spinning off course. The Trojans and Longhorns meet Saturday night with both teams facing questions about their quarterbacks and how nervous fans would react to another loss.

UNDATED (AP) — The Southeastern Conference’s West Division commands the spotlight Saturday. Top-ranked Alabama opens league play at Mississippi and No. 7 Auburn hosts No. 12 LSU. Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has a chance to become a serious Heisman Trophy contender when the Buckeyes play TCU in Arlington, Texas. New UCLA coach Chip Kelly is still looking for his first win when the Bruins play Fresno State.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — In his first two career starts, No. 24 Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius has looked good. He completed 25 of 35 passes for 300 yards and five touchdowns, along with one interception, in his first career start, a 58-17 victory over Missouri State. Cornelius was 25 of 40 for 428 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions, last week in a 55-13 win over South Alabama. His biggest challenge yet will come Saturday at home against No. 17 Boise State.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The Big 12 is in the spotlight this week with a series of games against Power Five schools, to say nothing of Oklahoma State’s game against Boise State. The highlight is No. 15 TCU against fourth-ranked Ohio State. But whether it’s Kansas-Rutgers or Texas-Southern California, the league has a chance to make a national statement.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas sophomore offensive lineman Patrick Hudson has been released from the hospital and he has returned to class a week after a heat illness at practice sent him to intensive care. A Texas spokesman says Hudson left the hospital Wednesday. There’s been no timetable set for him to return to football. Texas hosts No. 22 Southern California on Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 15 TCU gets another chance for the Big 12 against No. 4 Ohio State. The Horned Frogs and Buckeyes will play Saturday night at the home stadium of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. That is where Ohio State won the national championship four seasons ago after jumping over Big 12 co-champs Baylor and TCU for the fourth and final spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. Oklahoma beat the Buckeyes last season.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray is a dual threat. The Major League Baseball draft pick signed this summer with the Oakland A’s for nearly $5 million. However, Murray returned as quarterback for the Sooners and has shifted the focus back to football. He’s completed 64 percent of his passes for 515 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also rushed for two TDs in the two wins for the fifth-ranked Sooners.
