Here is the latest ACC sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) — The Southeastern Conference’s West Division commands the spotlight Saturday. Top-ranked Alabama opens league play at Mississippi and No. 7 Auburn hosts No. 12 LSU. Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has a chance to become a serious Heisman Trophy contender when the Buckeyes play TCU in Arlington, Texas. New UCLA coach Chip Kelly is still looking for his first win when the Bruins play Fresno State.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Anthony Brown threw two of his career-high five touchdown passes to Jeff Smith, and Boston College beat Wake Forest 41-34 on Thursday night in a game that started two hours early with Hurricane Florence approaching. AJ Dillon rushed for 185 yards with a 45-yard score for the Eagles. They’ve won their first three games for the first time since 2007.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — There’s a large burden of expectation on Miami defensive back Al Blades Jr. Such is to be expected when one has bloodlines like he does _ being the son of former Hurricanes star Al Blades, as well as the nephew of Hurricanes greats Bennie Blades and Brian Blades. He’s in the family business, for certain. And he’s flourishing under that pressure. Only two games into his college career, Blades Jr. is already serving as a captain for No. 21 Miami.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson’s Kelly Bryant understands that his big second half at Texas A&M won’t end the Tigers dual quarterback system. He’s simply glad he performed when his number is called and is anxious to continue to play well for the second-ranked Tigers. Clemson is scheduled to play Georgia Southern on Saturday. The start of the game was moved from midafternoon to noon EST. due to Hurricane Florence. There is a possibility the storm’s track could lead to the game being canceled.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 2 Clemson has moved up the start time of its football game this weekend and South Carolina has canceled its home game with Marshall due to Hurricane Florence. They are the latest schools to alter scheduled games in the Carolinas and Virginia due to the approaching storm. Clemson will now play Georgia Southern on Saturday at noon instead of 3:30 p.m. For the Gamecocks, it is the third time in four years their football schedule has been impacted by severe weather.

UNDATED (AP) — The NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes will start training camp a day early in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. General manager Don Waddell says the NHL is allowing the team to hold its first practice Thursday. The Hurricanes were scheduled to begin camp Friday while taking the added step of closing practice to the public to keep fans off the roads during what are expected to be dangerous conditions. Either that practice or the one Saturday will be called off, depending on what the storm does.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — While safety concerns at Atlantic Coast Conference schools are being addressed ahead of Hurricane Florence, the storm’s significant impact on this week’s schedule will have a lingering effect on scheduling obstacles, monetary implications and bowl considerations once it passes. The list of canceled games includes No. 13 Virginia Tech’s home game against East Carolina, No. 14 West Virginia’s trip to North Carolina State and No. 18 UCF’s visit to North Carolina.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse and Purdue have agreed to a two-game, home-and-home series beginning in 2022. The Boilermakers will make their first trip to the Carrier Dome on Sept. 17, 2022. Syracuse will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana, a year later. The Orange are 0-1 against the Boilermakers. They lost 51-0 at Ross-Ade Stadium in the 2004 season opener.
