Here is the latest ACC sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) — No. 2 Clemson has moved up the start time of its football game this weekend and South Carolina has canceled its home game with Marshall due to Hurricane Florence. They are the latest schools to alter scheduled games in the Carolinas and Virginia due to the approaching storm. Clemson will now play Georgia Southern on Saturday at noon instead of 3:30 p.m. For the Gamecocks, it is the third time in four years their football schedule has been impacted by severe weather.

UNDATED (AP) — The NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes will start training camp a day early in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. General manager Don Waddell says the NHL is allowing the team to hold its first practice Thursday. The Hurricanes were scheduled to begin camp Friday while taking the added step of closing practice to the public to keep fans off the roads during what are expected to be dangerous conditions. Either that practice or the one Saturday will be called off, depending on what the storm does.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — While safety concerns at Atlantic Coast Conference schools are being addressed ahead of Hurricane Florence, the storm’s significant impact on this week’s schedule will have a lingering effect on scheduling obstacles, monetary implications and bowl considerations once it passes. The list of canceled games includes No. 13 Virginia Tech’s home game against East Carolina, No. 14 West Virginia’s trip to North Carolina State and No. 18 UCF’s visit to North Carolina.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Wake Forest and Boston College will try to beat Hurricane Florence _ and each other. The Demon Deacons play host to the Eagles in a key Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Thursday in a game moved ahead two hours in an attempt to finish before the hurricane reaches central North Carolina. The decision to play came as several other ACC schools called off their games for the weekend.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse and Purdue have agreed to a two-game, home-and-home series beginning in 2022. The Boilermakers will make their first trip to the Carrier Dome on Sept. 17, 2022. Syracuse will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana, a year later. The Orange are 0-1 against the Boilermakers. They lost 51-0 at Ross-Ade Stadium in the 2004 season opener.
