CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals host the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL’s Thursday night game. Their last meeting was in Baltimore in the final game of last season, when Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton completed a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd with 44 seconds left. The Bengals’ 31-27 victory kept Baltimore out of the playoffs. The Ravens opened this season with a blowout win over the Buffalo Bills, while the Bengals beat the IColts.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has skipped practice for a second straight day due to an issue with his right elbow. The 36-year-old Roethlisberger injured the elbow on Pittsburgh’s next-to-last offensive snap in a Week 1 tie with Cleveland. Offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner declined to get into specifics about Roethlisberger’s status for Pittsburgh’s home opener against Kansas City.
UNDATED (AP) — Tony Gonzalez, Ed Reed, Champ Bailey and London Fletcher are first-year eligible players among the 102 modern-era nominees for the class of 2019 for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gonzalez was the most accomplished tight end in NFL history. Reed and Bailey were standout defensive backs. Fletcher is a rare undrafted player to be nominated for the Hall of Fame.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have acquired two-time Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson from the Ottawa Senators. San Jose is sending the Senators a first-round pick in 2019 or 2020, a second-round pick in 2019, forwards Chris Tierney, Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo and two conditional draft picks. The Sharks also get forward Francis Perron.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Former Major League pitcher Billy O’Dell, who won 105 games in a 13-year career, has died. He was 85. O’Dell pitched at Clemson before moving on to the majors. The school announced O’Dell’s death today. The Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry, South Carolina, says O’Dell died Wednesday at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Neither the school nor the funeral home announced a cause of death.
