Here is the latest ACC sports news from The Associated Press

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has called off Saturday’s football game at South Carolina State. The Bulldogs were set to take on North Carolina Central in their home opener. However, MEAC commissioner Dennis Thomas postponed the contest because of the approach of Hurricane Florence and safety concerns for the players and fans from both teams. South Carolina State is located about 75 miles northwest from Charleston. The game was moved to Saturday, Nov. 24.

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech running back KirVonte Benson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Benson is a junior who rushed for 1,053 yards last season in his debut as the starting B-back. He was injured in last week’s 49-38 loss to South Florida. His injury clears a spot in the starting lineup for redshirt freshman Jordan Mason.

ATLANTA (AP) — Looking to bounce back from another second-half meltdown, Georgia Tech finds itself dealing with more bad news _ running back KirVonte Benson is out for the season. The starting B-back sustained a knee injury in last weekend’s 49-38 loss to South Florida, depriving the Yellow Jackets of a player who rushed for more than 1,000 yards in his first year as the starter. Georgia Tech travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday for its Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke has to replace perhaps its most irreplaceable football player. Quarterback Daniel Jones took virtually every meaningful snap for the Blue Devils over the past two-plus seasons. But he’s out indefinitely with a broken collar bone. So now Duke must figure out a way to win with backup Quentin Harris. Receiver Johnathan Lloyd doesn’t expect a dropoff and says the Blue Devils “just have to plug him in.”
