KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Ian Kennedy pitched six innings to earn his first win since the first week of April, Alex Gordon drove in five runs and the Royals beat the Twins 10-3 on Saturday night. Alcides Escobar added three RBIs while finishing a homer shy of the cycle, and Cam Gallagher ended a 0-for-14 skid with a career-best four hits for Kansas City. The Twins will try to avoid a four-game sweep in the series finale Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Zack Annexstad threw two short touchdown passes to Tyler Johnson, and freshman Bryce Williams had 176 yards total offense as Minnesota beat Miami (Ohio) 26-3. Annexstad completed 12 of 20 throws for 142 yards. Williams had 33 rushes for 141 yards as featured back in place of Rodney Smith, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last week. With fellow true freshman Annexstad under center, Williams and the young Gophers looked the more-seasoned squad against older-but-injured Miami.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Easton Stick threw for one touchdown and ran for another, leading defending FCS champion North Dakota State to a 38-7 win over FCS newcomer North Alabama. The Bison (2-0) and the Lions (2-1), who are transitioning to the Big South Conference, had met once before, a 35-7 NDSU win in the 1985 Division II title game.
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Taryn Christian threw for 332 yards and five touchdowns and South Dakota State set a school record for points in a 90-6 victory over Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday night. The 90 points broke the Jackrabbits’ previous best that came in an 85-0 win over Columbus College in 1922.
