KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez and Jorge Bonifacio hit back-to-back homers during a four-run sixth inning, Heath Fillmyer pitched into the eighth and the Kansas City Royals held on to beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4. The loss by the Twins, who occupy second place in the woeful AL Central, reduced the division-leading Cleveland Indians’ magic number to two.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for all scenarios for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers and injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two-time NFL MVP was held out of practice at midweek to focus on rehabbing what he says is a sprained left knee. He might be more limited in the pocket than usual. It still didn’t stop Rodgers from helping the Packers beat the Bears last week. The Vikings say they think Rodgers is playing and will be ready for anything.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — For all the raves Mike Hughes has produced in practice with the Minnesota Vikings they harbored no plan to play him on 79 percent of the snaps on defense in his first real NFL game. That’s what happened in his debut thanks to injuries to two fellow cornerbacks. Hughes had an interception return for a touchdown and a team-leading three pass breakups in the opener. He started as the nickel back for Mackensie Alexander. Then he took over on the outside for Trae Waynes.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 4 Ohio State is averaging 650 yards and 64.5 points through two games. The Buckeyes expect to get a big challenge from 15th-ranked TCU’s traditionally strong defense. Indiana’s veteran offensive line will be tested by a Ball State defense that had four sacks in a loss to Notre Dame. Purdue is a touchdown underdog at home against Missouri. Rutgers freshman quarterback Arthur Sitkowski is coming off a shoulder injury and merits watching when the Scarlet Knights play at Kansas.
