Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – Not your average ribbon ceremony: instead of a ribbon-cutting, a ribbon “tying” was held in Chippewa Falls to celebrate the merger of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls YMCA locations.

The two separate organizations were formed about 100 years apart and have operated independently until now. With this merger, members are now able to utilize all program opportunities, from the John & Fay Menard Tennis Center, to the L-E Phillips Indoor Sports Center, and all other programs the YMCA offers.

Staff members say it’s more efficient sharing resources, staffing, and even websites. An estimated $110,000 has already been saved from the merger that happened only one month ago.

“It’s nice to come together and really look at how we’re operating as a Y And how we can greater serve the members of the entire community,” said Theresa Hillis, CEO of the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley. “The Ys Have been doing that for so many years, we have scholarship programs. We’ve been really great at offering scholarship opportunities to both areas, and it’s just going to increase our capacity to give back to the community.”

To celebrate, everyone will get free admission to the YMCAs Friday and Saturday, including the pools, just in time to beat the heat!
