10/09: Interview – The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic Open House

The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic is celebrating its new, permanent home and the achievements of the Helping Hands campaign.

The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic opened its healthcare clinic in Eau Claire in 1997 to help meet the needs of a
growing population of uninsured people who were increasingly relying on hospital emergency rooms for their
medical care. The clinic, staffed by volunteer clinicians, has expanded to provide care several times a week
with many comprehensive services, including, but not limited to, acute and chronic medical care, mental
health clinic with counseling, education and weight management, dental and vision clinics, free medications
and eyeglasses, lab services, and immunizations. Last year, CVFC provided for more than 1,900 visits, at no
cost to patients. Since its launch in 1997, the Clinic has helped almost 10,000 patients receive much-needed
care through 46,162 visits.

The Clinic serves patients who are falling between the cracks of the healthcare system. This
includes those with incomes between 100-200% of the federal poverty line, those who don’t
qualify for state or federal assistance (like Badgercare or Medicaid), and those who don’t
have any other reasonable alternative available on the market.

When the organization learned in 2018 that they would once again need to relocate the clinic and the demand
for services grew as more diverse patients turned to CVFC for medical help, a new, permanent medical home
became even more necessary for continuity of care. After an exhaustive search, in the fall of 2018, CVFC
launched the Helping Hands campaign to raise the $1.2 million needed to purchase the building at 1030 Oak
Ridge Drive. This site is designed to meet the needs of the Clinic, now and in the future.

And to celebrate the achievements of the Helping Hands campaign, Chippewa Valley Free Clinic is hosting an open house. The event will be on Wednesday, October 16 from 4 till 6 PM. It will be held at the new location, 1030 Oak Ridge Drive, Eau Claire.

The event will feature music by 3 of 7: The Cathy Reitz Trio, light refreshments, a brief program, a ribbon-cutting by the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce, and tours of the new medical clinic. For more information about the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic or the open house, visit their website or call 715-839-8477.
