08/20 – Interview – Late Summer Gardening Tasks

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

Today our garden expert compiled a list of late summer gardening tasks to get your plants looking great for the rest of the year.

First, Fertilize and apply weed control to the lawn. This can be done in a single step with weed and feed or separately with a weed control product if you have more difficult weeds. Use a product containing at least 3 of these ingredients, 2-4D, mecoprop, quinclorac and dicamba. Apply twice, 10 days apart. That should kill Creeping Charlie and other hard to kill weeds.

Second, plant fall flowers into your containers! They may be looking a little rough after the hot days of summer. Now is a great time to add both annuals and perennials to your containers to freshen them up.

Another thing you can do is divide perennials like iris and astilbe and move them now. Also, time to plant fall-blooming perennials, shrubs, and trees.

Lastly, add mulch to areas in the garden for winter protection.
