Must See! Harlem’s own Mrs. Murphy turns 114

Harlem’s favorite super-centenarian Mrs. Murphy turned 114 years young on July 6th.

She became the oldest living person in the U.S. as loved ones and members of the Harlem community saluted her. They gave her applause fit for a queen as she gave a wave with her lace gloved hands, tiara and even a sash over her finest dress.

Mrs. Murphy was born into a family of 12 children in North Carolina. She moved to Harlem because she wanted to be a part of the Harlem renaissance in the 20’s. She lost her husband early, being a widow since 1953.

She raised her two kids on her own and became a well respected member of the community. Relatives say remarkably she has no ailments. She is aware of the honor of being the oldest american.

As for her birthday treat, gold cupcakes and a meal of southern comfort food was on the table.
