Burnett County (WQOW) – A Grantsburg man faces 3 1/2 years in prison for allegedly killing his cousin’s dog.

Gavin Neuman, 19, is charged with mistreatment of animals causing death, which is a felony.

According to the criminal complaint, Neuman shot ‘Chevy,’ a one-year-old doberman/hound mix once in the head with a .22.

He told police the dog kept getting in the garbage and was “a nuisance.” He told police the last straw was when ‘Chevy’ ran away and their pit-bull followed. He did tell police the dog was never vicious or aggressive.

Neuman will be back in court November 16 for a preliminary hearing.
