Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man faces an animal mistreatment charge after admitting to stabbing his roommate’s dog.

William Geiger was charged Tuesday with mistreatment of animals – use of a dangerous weapon.

According to the complaint, Geiger told police his roommate’s dog was chasing his cat and bit him after he kicked it.

Geiger then said he grabbed a knife from the kitchen table and stabbed the dog in the throat.

The dog was taken to the hospital where the vet said he suffered possibly fatal blood loss. The dog’s owner had to put him down to end his suffering.

Geiger is free on a $2,000 signature bond with orders not to care for any animals.

He returns to court November 13.
