Eau Claire (WQOW) – Dozens of volunteers gathered in Eau Claire on Saturday to help a family search and spread the word about their missing loved one. More than four months ago veteran and UW-Stout student James Liedtka went missing.

The family furthered their search efforts by passing out thousands of fliers to spread awareness. The family said the more people who know about his disappearance the better.

“Well, I think it’s a really terrible thing for any family to go through, to lose somebody and not know what happened to them or where they are,” said volunteer Dana Thompson. “With the whole recent Jayme Closs [case], the whole community came out for her. There’s a lot of people that don’t get that same amount of attention. So, I just though they might actually need somebody random like me to just show up.”

Some volunteers told News 18 they came out because they have search and rescue experience. Others wanted to be involved to support the family.

“We’re all just trying to stay involved as much as we can, and do as much around the community that we can,” said Isabel Coelle, a cousin of Liedtka.

“I think the fact that he is a missing Army vet, even though most of my ties are to the Air Force, the thing is, we have our competitive nature from branch to branch, but it doesn’t matter what department you’re from, what branch you are in. It’s definitely a brotherhood,” said volunteer Mitchell Clarke.

Liedtka’s family said their goal right now is to find any information leading to Liedtka. Liedtka is described to be 5’7″, 170 lbs with dark brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, maroon T-shirt and jeans. If you have any information of Liedtka’s whereabouts, please contact the Eau Claire Police Department at 715-839-4972.
