Altoona city officials choose new police chief

Altoona (WQOW) – Altoona city officials have chosen their next police chief after Jesse James was elected to the state assembly.

Thursday night the Police and Fire Commission met and extended a conditional employment offer to Kelly Bakken, who’s currently the police chief in Black River Falls.

Bakken is an Upper Iowa University alumnus and has worked all over western Wisconsin in law enforcement, including positions as jail officer, detective, patrol officer and investigations captain.

Earlier this month, Altoona city officials said after their chosen candidate accepts, it would take about a month for the new chief to start.
