UWEC’s Garfield Avenue redesign project is completed

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Thursday marked the completion of the Garfield Avenue redesign project. People gathered on the UWEC campus with live music, popcorn, apple cider, and other treats.

Construction on the $12.4 million project began last year. It now includes a pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare and an outdoor classroom. There is also an outdoor fire pit on the side of the terrace; students said this would be a perfect added feature for cold nights.

“I’m just excited to be able to hang out here with my friends at another fun on-campus resource [to] eat lunch, read books, drink coffee, hang out with Blu… it’s amazing,” said Bailey Roche, a student at UW-Eau Claire.

Mike Rindo, UW-Eau Claire Assistant Chancellor for Facilities, said the goal is to embrace the natural resources on campus by creating a terrace overlooking the Chippewa River.
