Police chase, standoff lands Menomonie man behind bars

Winter (KBJR) – A Menomonie  man is behind bars following a police chase and a near three hour standoff in Sawyer County.

Authorities say the 32-year-old suspect drove off after being pulled over by a deputy Tuesday night in the Town of Round Lake.

The suspect, who police have yet to identify, eventually crashed near the town of Winter, authorities said. That’s where the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office says the man shouted to the deputy he had a gun, and put the gun to his own head, saying he was going to end his life.

After three hours, County SWAT negotiators were able to get the suspect to surrender.

Two passengers in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Inside the vehicle, authorities found marijuana, meth and a digital scale.

The suspect faces five felony charges including recklessly endangering safety, fleeing police and possession of drugs.
