High-Middle school classes canceled in Spring Valley Friday because of storm damage

UPDATE: The storm damage at Spring Valley Middle-High School caused classes to be canceled on Friday.

According to the school district, there were numerous events going on at the school when the storm hit, and people sheltered in designated areas.

Because of the damage to the building, classes at the Middle-High school are canceled. The property is off limits to everyone other than school employees and contractors.

(WQOW) — Thursday night’s strong storm caused damage across the Chippewa Valley. After the storm moved through, it left many in our area in the dark. Xcel Energy reports more than 2,500 customers lost their power following the storm.

The storm also caused widespread damage. In Spring Valley, the high school had parts of the roof ripped right off by 60-70 mile per hour winds. There was a volleyball game going on at the school when the storm moved through. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Another Spring Valley sport had less luck. Multiple viewers told News 18 that the recently installed baseball dugouts were destroyed by the storm.

The strength of the wind was also felt here in Eau Claire County. It even bent a road sign on Highway 53 near the River Prairie exit.
