Man in custody after high speed chase in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) — An Eau Claire man is in custody after leading police on a high speed chase on Thursday.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said they attempted to pull over Douglas Polzin for speeding on Highway 53. Troopers said Polzin drove off, reaching speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour. Around 2:15 p.m., law enforcement reports that Polzin crashed into a ditch on Highway D at Highway HH. Troopers said he got out and ran away.

With the help of the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, Polzin was taken into custody at 2:40 p.m. without incident.

A records check showed his license had been revoked, and he had ten active warrants out for his arrest. Law enforcement is recommending a slew of charges against Polzin, including felony fleeing, recklessly endangering safety, and drug possession.
