More Eau Claire County road closures expected due to dam release

Eau Claire (WQOW) – There will be more road closures Wednesday night and Thursday morning because dams are opening up.

Highway H north of Rustic Road 45 and County Highway M will flood Wednesday night around 8 p.m. Thursday, the intersection of County Highway QQ and County Highway L south of Seymour, will flood at about 6 a.m.

Eau Claire County Highway Commissioner John Johnson said his staff will be giving face to face directions if they can’t put up barricades or highway closure signs.

“Unfortunately during these events, we cant put up detours up because of all the chaos. We don’t have enough resources to close the roads so people are driving around the closures which are really dangerous,” said Johnson.

The Eau Claire County Highway Department and County Emergency Management remind the public to abide by all signs, they are put there to protect the public.  Ditches or waterways that are typically dry can be several feet deep, confusing drivers. Driving fast through water can cause a vehicle to hydroplane knocking if off the roadway.

Johnson said he will have staff on standby Wednesday night to usher traffic along.

If you do see any flooding, you can report it by dialing 211.
