Three dead following canoe accident in Apostle Islands

UPDATE: The U.S. Coast Guard in Bayfield says they have found a missing canoeist after a multi-hour search in the Apostle Islands.

The condition of the canoeist is unknown at this time.

According to the Bayfield Coast Guard, the search involved multiple agencies.

Authorities confirmed to KBJR 6 on Friday morning that three others died and one other person survived after capsizing their canoe Thursday on Lake Superior.

The canoeists were traveling from Madeline Island to Michigan Island.

LA POINTE (KBJR) – The U.S. Coast Guard in Bayfield has confirmed three people have died following a canoe capsize in the Apostle Islands.

Authorities say the canoeists were traveling from Madeline Island to Michigan Island on Thursday.

The Coast Guard confirmed one person was rescued, and a search is underway for another canoeist.
