Menomonie Street ‘Dairy Queen’ splits from DQ family, renames business

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A favorite spot for a sweet treat and other homemade goodies in Eau Claire has a new name.

Now, the former Menomonie Street Dairy Queen, has a new name – Roadside Ice Cream and Diner.

According to a manager at the business, the owners wanted to maintain their brand of a local family diner, and did not like the direction they were headed.

You may remember a lawsuit  between Dairy Queen and the business’ owners Maureen and John Robertson. The Robertsons sued the American Dairy Queen Corporation for repeatedly blocking their attempts to buy exclusive rights to use the DQ name in Eau Claire County. That lawsuit was later dropped.

The diner will have the same menu as before, but the names of menu items will change so they are not branded like Dairy Queen.

Workers spent the day Monday changing the menu item names and replacing the large signs on top of the building.

Still, any small stretch of even main roads where salt and/or sand have washed away from cars driving over it could quickly develop slippery spots from this very thin layer of ice
