Chippewa County Sheriff’s Deputy stabbed, taken to hospital

Chippewa County (WQOW) – A Chippewa County Sheriff’s Deputy was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after being stabbed.

According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday around 9:49 a.m., deputies responded to a suspicious person call on 90th Street near Highway 29. A person had called police saying his brother, 35, was not taking his prescribed medications and was acting erratic.

When deputies arrived, they saw a man sitting in a vehicle parked on 90th Street holding a knife. Deputies said the man was trying to harm himself. As deputies moved toward the vehicle, the man got out of the vehicle and stabbed the deputy in the shoulder.

Deputies had to use their Tasers twice before the man was able to be taken into custody.

The injured deputy was taken to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire by ambulance. He was expected to be released Saturday.

The suspect was taken for evaluation.

The sheriff’s office did not release the names of those involved, but will at a later date.
