Eau Claire man charged with 9th OWI after running red light, hitting car

Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man is charged with his 9th OWI.

Police said surveillance video shows Anthony Nelson, 57, ran a red light last Friday night on North Hastings Way – hitting another car that had a green light on Eddy Lane. No one was hurt.

When police told Nelson the crash was his fault, he couldn’t describe in detail what happened and even stumbled standing up while officers gave him a field sobriety test.

When asked how much he had to drink, Nelson replied, "enough".

Officers confirmed Nelson was on probation and banned from drinking alcohol.

Nelson is now charged with his 9th OWI.
