Florida teacher has cancer, asks other teachers for sick days

(WKOW) — A Florida teacher who’s battling colon cancer ran out of sick days, so he reached out to other teachers for some help.

Robert Goodman teaches history at Palm Beach Garden Community High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"Doing chemo and wearing my pump on me several times a day during that treatment I thought how am I going to do this?" Goodman said.

He needed at least 20 more sick days to continue his chemo, so he put a plea on Facebook asking his fellow Florida teacher for help.

Four days later, he learned there were enough sick days donated, and he could heal without worrying.

"When you help someone, you give something to someone," he said. "And it’s that one on one and that’s always very special but when there’s a deluge of help in 4 days, it’s — it changes you."

He’s now on a mission to thank everyone who donated time. He’s going to be doing chemotherapy until Halloween and said he plans to give back any sick days that he doesn’t use.
