Eau Claire City Council approves final plat for home development

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Residents on Eau Claire’s north side will have some new neighbors in the near future.

The Eau Claire City Council unanimously passed the motion to plat about six acres of land between Gooder St. and E. Princeton Ave. Property owners from Haselwander Bros. Inc. plan to create 27 lots for single-family development, as well as a new park. A previous proposal from Haselwander did not include the park, which led a number of area residents to speak out at a recent city council meeting. Tuesday, many council members expressed their support for the proposal.

"You know you look at a project like this and you realize that we are voting on this today, but it could be over the next 50 years that kids are going to be able to play on this playground and the families who are moving in today are gonna be able to walk their dogs and enjoy the outdoors," city council acting president Andrew Werthmann said. "It’ll come back to the benefits of health and creating community."

The city council also passed an agreement with the property owners to make storm water improvements on the land. Street and public utility infrastructure is already in place to serve the area.
