Eau Claire Co. residents can sign up for free property fraud notifications

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Property fraud can happen to anyone. That’s why the Eau Claire County Register of Deeds wants you to always be alert.

Kathryn Christenson, with the Register of Deeds, said they just launched a free service that allows property owners to have their name or property monitored by the Register of Deeds to track fraudulent activity.

Christenson said the property fraud alert doesn’t prevent fraud, but will provide you with an early warning system if fraudulent activity has happened by alerting you by email or phone.

She said there haven’t been any property fraud cases here in Eau Claire County, but you should always be cautious.

"It has happened in your larger cities, so it is going on and anything you can do to protect yourself, our office highly recommends this," Christenson said.

If you do become a victim of property fraud you should call the police.

Weather Outlook: Gloomy weather returns

Today was the warmest day of the month with high temperatures in the low to mid 40s across western Wisconsin. The only other days this month in the 40s were this past Saturday and Sunday. While temperatures will be in the upper 30s near 40 again tomorrow afternoon, it won’t be as nice of a day.
