Eau Claire City Council hold their first meeting in borrowed space

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The Eau Claire City Council met for the very first time in its new, temporary digs.

Monday night, the city council public meeting was held in the Eau Claire County Board room at the Eau Claire Government Center.

As we’ve reported, city hall is being renovated and about 90 employees have been moved to a temporary building, which includes the space for city council.

Acting President Andrew Werthmann said the decision to hold meetings in the county board room was made because of concerns over public accessibility and technical issues.

"We’ve seen a lot of transition lately at city council. I’m kind of excited this, you know this next year is certainly a growing chapter for us," Werthmann told News 18.

Werthmann still encourages everyone to come to the meetings and let their voices be heard.

The city council will keep using the county board room until renovations are done. That is expected to be completed in about a year.
