DOJ investigating “officer-involved death” in Rusk County

Rusk County (WQOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, at the request, of the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place Sunday night at a home in the village of Hawkins. 

A caller told police there was a male at the home who was intoxicated, and the caller was concerned the male would become violent. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home, and an altercation resulted in a deputy firing a gun.

Law enforcement rendered first-aid to the male, and he was taken to the hospital where he died.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident. 

The two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
