Eau Clare firefighters invited the community to check out the new fire house

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday at the new Eau Claire Fire Department for its grand opening.

The new facility is in a neighborhood on Malden Avenue. The Eau Claire Battalion Fire Chief, Joe Kelly, said the new fire house is in a better location, as far as getting to fires around neighborhoods faster.

Firefighters said they started moving equipment last Monday, and are happy to now have everything ready to go.

"I hope it becomes more of part of the community than something you just speed by on your way to work," said Kelly.

News 18 spoke to one young man who showed up to the opening, Marcus Roach. He said he wants to be a firefighter when he gets older.

"I actually want to be a firefighter when I’m older, so I just thought it would a great way to meet all the firefighters and stuff and just have a great chance to see what they do," Roach said.

Chief Joe Kelly said he felt that the grand opening was a good turn out, and he appreciates the community taking time out of their day to come check out the new fire facility.
