Steve Toft talks farming background benefits for 3rd Congressional District

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Republican candidate for the Wisconsin 3rd Congressional District, Steve Toft of Osseo, is the first republican to run since 2014. He said his background as a farmer gives him the best shot in the race against Rep. Ron Kind (D).

Toft said if he is elected, he would seek a seat on the House Committee on Agriculture.

"That is amazing, because it’s the second largest industry in the state, and we don’t have anybody to help write the Farm Bill," said Toft. "We don’t have anybody to help shape our trade agreements, or to develop world markets for our commodities and our milk."

Toft said the European Union’s agreement to buy more U.S. soybeans is great progress, but the U.S. needs to open up to other parts of the world for selling them. He also said he believes in free-trade and wants to eliminate tariffs.

Toft faces off against Kind in the November general election.
