Scammers targeting electric company in Barron County

Barron County (WQOW) – Scammers have a new target. This time it is an electric company, and its customers in Barron County. 

According to Barron Electric Cooperative, the company has received reports from members who were threatened with immediate shut off unless they paid whatever the "Past Due’ amount was as stipulated by the scammer.

The scammer then said the payment should be made at a nearby convenience store. 

Barron Electric said some members have lost money in the process.

If you receive a call like this, you are told to hang up and contact Barron Electric Cooperative at 800-322-1008.
