Backpack drive in Chippewa Falls helps underprivileged kids

Chippewa Falls (WQOW)- School is already right around the corner and one local business is collecting backpacks for families who cannot afford them.

This the the 5th year Morrie’s Chippewa Valley Mazda has been doing a backpack drive.

This year, the company is giving the backpacks to Longfellow Elementary and Parkview Elementary students.

For each backpack donated, Morrie’s is giving $10 for school supplies.

General Manager Bill Bertrand said last year Morrie’s received 700 backpacks, and this years goal is at least 750.

"Kids literally go to school, they don’t have school supplies, they do not have a backpack to bring to school and it was shocking the first time that we went into one of these schools," Bertrand said.

If you want to donate a backpack all you have to do is drop it off at Morrie’s. The drive ends on August 13.
