2017 annual report shows crime is on the rise in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) – New data shows crime is rising in Eau Claire.

There were 185 more drug arrests in 2017 than in 2016. Sex offenses, robbery, assault, thefts and arson have also risen. There was a shocking jump for a night residential burglary. In 2016, there were 50. Last year, there were 125.

However, the report showed one thing has gotten better. There were about 200 fewer adult arrests in 2017. That’s the lowest number in that category since 2011.

Police Chief Gerald Staniszewskii said, "Even though we are at an 11-year high, we still live in a safe community."
