Governor Walker stops in Eau Claire with Foxconn teaser

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Governor Scott Walker stopped in Eau Claire Wednesday afternoon for a luncheon with people from the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.

He began by talking about education, health care and unemployment rates, and ended with a tidbit that could have a major impact on the Chippewa Valley.

"In the next week or two, we believe Foxconn is considering an additional investment here in the Chippewa Valley," said Walker. "We think that will help them augment some of the work they’re doing to attract more talent, to help them with operations and that it physically doesn’t all have to be right down to Racine."

Foxconn officials recently announced plans to buy a former Younkers store in Green Bay, and turn it into an innovation center. They plan to hire 200 people at that location. Walker also reflected on the Sun Prairie explosion.

"Obviously the biggest tragedy of it all, you can replace buildings, but to lose a firefighter, a volunteer at that, really is the most painful thing out of all of this," said Walker.

Walker said he has been working with the mayor to see what happened and why, and to give Sun Prairie the help they need.

Walker reflected on President Trump’s recent Supreme Court nomination, and said that Brett Kavanaugh parallels what he does at the state level, calling him a person of integrity who understands the law and the role of the judiciary.
