Army veterans walk Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin

Two army veterans are hiking the 1200 mile Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin.

Jessica Brewington and Amanda Dodd are long-time friends and signed up for the Warrior Expeditions.

It is a non-profit group that aims to use outdoor activities like hiking, biking and paddling to help veterans.

"It really helps veterans to come to terms with what is going on because of their military experiences," veteran Amanda Dodd said.

The two left from St. Croix Falls in late May and arrived in Wausau Thursday.

Wausau’s VFW Post 388 — one of many military organizations that help make the veteran’s journeys possible — hosted them overnight

"It is amazing that moment when you see the volunteers who come get us off the trail. We either stay at their house or a hotel, and can do laundry and dry out our gear and hang out with some amazing people," said veteran Jessica Brewington .

Members of the Post 388 have helped out with the Warrior Expeditions for the past three years.

"These girls are just amazing. I hope we remain friends with these girls for a long time," Post Commander Dan Southworth said.

The women left the Wausau area Friday morning to continue on their journey.

They hope to wrap up their journey by the end of the summer.
