Eau Claire business receives grant to install rooftop solar panels

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A local business is hoping to inspire others to go solar.

All Season Tire Pros in Eau Claire installed 84 rooftop solar panels last week with the help of a grant from Focus On Energy, which helps Wisconsin homes and businesses cut their utility bills. Electricians are currently working on wiring and say the panels should start producing power in the next couple of days.

The auto shop applied for the grant for each of the last three years, and finally won it in the latest round of applications.

The grant will cover about 10 percent of the $75,000 cost of the panels, which owners say will be paid off in about seven years. Employees say the renewable energy will make their utility costs much cheaper.

"We’re looking to cut about half of our electricity use, so hopefully save about $500 a month or so, and kind of just keep moving forward with being more green," said Grant Ida, All Season Tire Pros salesman.

The auto shop hopes the project will inspire other small businesses to go green too.
