8 injured in Jackson County crash

Jackson County (WQOW) – Eight people were injured after an early-morning crash on Interstate 94 in Jackson County.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the State Patrol responded to an overturned semi blocking both eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Black River Falls around 1:12 a.m. Tuesday.

The DOT says the semi was being driven by Jason Gilberts, 45, from Willmar MN. He was driving eastbound on Interstate 94 in the inside lane when a van driven by Jayden Gjerseth, 21, of Black River Falls, tried to change lanes in front of the semi. That caused the semi to hit the van. Gilberts tried to correct his semi but it overturned on top of the van.

There were eight people in the van. Seven of them were taken to the hospital by ambulance, while Gjerseth was taken by helicopter. He has serious injuries.

The semi was transporting processed chicken and turkey. The interstate was closed for four hours.
