La Crosse (WXOW) – Three people are looking at a charge of theft of a firearm for taking a Dunn County deputy’s handgun in La Crosse.
La Crosse police said a Dunn County deputy was in La Crosse visiting family on June 3. While in town, his wife and stepdaughter stopped at a car wash on Mormon Coulee Road. As the vehicle was being cleaned, a duffel bag containing a Glock handgun, duty belt, badge was taken out of the vehicle by family members and left behind.
Police said surveillance video showed one of the three suspects, Katie Briggs, take the duffel bag and put it in a car belonging to Matthew Docken. Police were able to track Docken down when he was pulled over for a traffic stop and arrested. He told investigators that he, Briggs and the third suspect, Donald Norberg II, went to a nearby alley and found the gun when they looked in the bag.
Police reports said Docken told investigators that he believed Norberg later traded the gun for drugs. It still hasn’t been located.
They threw the rest of the items and the bag in a dumpster. None of those items have been recovered.
