Attendance up for 24th annual ‘Rock the Riverfront’

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Hundreds of runners were at Phoenix Park on Saturday morning for some riverfront racing and rocking.

The 24th annual ‘Rock the Riverfront’ had live music, food vendors, games and races from 10K’s to No-K’s. No-K’s include a meal ticket and t-shirt for those non-runners. New this year is a cash grabbing booth and a surprising number of attendees.

"Also new this year is our numbers are up, which is really cool," said Vicki Hoehn, race director and Royal Credit Union employee. "Last year we had 490 participants. This year, we are up over 670."

The event is a charity classic that raises money for three local organizations: the Kings Closet, Literacy Chippewa Valley and Whitehall Public Library. Each organization competes for the most votes, but each are guaranteed a large donation. First place will receive $15,000. Second place will get $7,500, and third place, $5,000. Voting closes on Sunday at midnight.
