2 trains collide, derail near Exeland in Sawyer County

Sawyer County (WQOW) – Two trains collided this morning in Sawyer County. It happened in Wiergor Township near Exeland a little after 9 a.m.

The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department says two southbound Canadian National trains that collided on a section of track.

Sawyer county first responders arrived at the scene and gave medical attention to all four of the train personnel who were on the train at the time of the collision. One person was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

First responders indicate that a southbound train collided with the rear car of another southbound train, causing the first locomotive to catch fire.

The sheriff’s department says no train cars containing hazardous materials were involved in the crash.

The Canadian National Police Service agents will conduct a follow up investigation and clean up the scene.

The cause of the collision has not been determined.
