Village of Lake Hallie (WQOW) – An area park built to honor our veterans is under construction.
Renovations at the Peace Memorial Park in Lake Hallie, located off of Business Hwy 53, have already begun, with much of the area around the flag poles dug up.
Parks Commission Chairman, Richard Larscheid told News 18 the park was outdated, and the commission wanted it to look more modern.
Plans for the park include new benches, new in-ground lighting and a new plaque memorial for donors of the original park along with space for additional plaques. Larscheid said the ‘W’ formation will remain, but it will be redone so the flags are on a concrete, red, ‘W’ for a fresh look.
Larscheid said this project is estimated to cost $120,000, which will be funded by the parks commission, and construction could last 30 to 60 days depending on the weather.
Larscheid also said renovating the memorial display is just phase one of updating the entire park. Phase two likely won’t happen this year, but the commission hopes to create an even more inviting park for Lake Hallie and the surrounding community.
