Chicago artists brightens up downtown Eau Claire with new mural

Eau Claire (WQOW) – An artist from Chicago had a message in mind when she started planning to do a mural in Eau Claire.

Molly Zakrajsek is part of the Oxbow Hotel’s new Artist in Residence Program, and is spending the next two weeks painting a mural on the exterior of the Eau Claire Printing building across the street form the Oxbow Hotel.

Zakrajsek said the name of the mural is "Cascade". She added it’s the idea of water and a pioneering spirit.

Zakrajsek said she did a lot of research about Eau Claire, and when she created the design, she wanted it to connect with the town.

She said once the design is created, the hardest part of the mural is day one.

"There’s usually a major anxiety I have on day one to just get everything up and running, and working, but after that, it’s sorta like blissful, and then you get to be outside," Zakrajsek said. You get to connect with the community, and you get to talk to people. You get to paint all day, it’s a great job."

The mural was started on Sunday, and should be finished by June 16.
