60th annual ‘Broiler Fest’ in Eleva brings in UW Marching Band

Eleva (WQOW) – An annual festival in Eleva had an extra special guest this year.

This was the 60th year for the popular ‘Broiler Fest.’ On Saturday night, for the first time in years, organizers put on a fireworks show. On Sunday, there was a grand surprise at the grand parade.

"Sometimes you get some celebrities or politicians from Madison up here," said Brett Semingson, president of Broiler Fest. "A lot of parades get those, but to get the UW Marching Band is a very big deal for us."

Of course, local marching bands were a part of the 80 parade entrees, but the University of Wisconsin Marching Band traveled a little further to bring their world-class show to the small town event.

"Smaller towns actually want the band to come and like we’re always gung-ho for it," said CJ Zabat, drummer for the UW Marching Band. "It’s a lot of fun for us to come, and just kind of do what we do, do what we know how to do. Just do it as best as we can for these towns that are a little farther from Madison, and to just bring the fun to them and be able to spread some 5th quarter for everyone to have."

Organizers estimate this year’s Broiler Fest raised between $15,000 and $20,000, with all those funds going to non-profit organizations in the community.
