AT&T workers on strike for ‘unfair labor practices’ in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A crowd of union workers for AT&T picketed on Friday in Eau Claire, for what they call unfair labor practices.

"AT&T has chosen not to bargain with our bargaining unit," said Trevor Metcalf, member of Communications Workers of America (CWA). "So, we have decided to go on strike to try to get them to acknowledge our bargaining unit, and start a fair contract and negotiations and good faith."

Union members said AT&T chose to shut down call centers – sending jobs overseas. At one point, Eau Claire’s AT&T location housed over 300 employees. It now houses 12, according to an AT&T employee.

One of the reasons for the strike is to get those jobs back in Eau Claire, and the country. Participants in the strike said there were almost 2,500 AT&T employees in Wisconsin out on strike Friday.

The Eau Claire area strike will start again on Monday morning. They plan to strike until a negotiation is made.
