Woman killed in Polk County crash

Polk County (WQOW) – One person is dead after a head-on crash on Highway 46 in the town of Black Brook (near Amery) on Sunday morning.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Kali Laqua, 17, was driving a Ford F-150 southbound on Highway 46 when she crossed the center line hitting a Ford Ranger head-on.

The passenger in the Ford Ranger, Brenda Soderberg, 57, of Hammond WI, was killed in the crash. The driver of that vehicle, Keith Soderberg, 63, of Hammond was taken by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with severe injuries. Both people were wearing their seat belts.

Laqua, of Amery, was also flown to Regions Hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, Galen Coy, 17, of Deer Park was taken to Amery Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Police said Laqua was not wearing her seat belt, but they do not know if Coy was.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges are being filed at this time, and it does not appear intoxicants were a factor in the crash.

This is the third traffic fatality in Polk County this year.
