British and European sports cars ‘invade’ Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Fifty-one sports cars at Carson Park Saturday sported European flags on fancy four wheel automobiles.

"Start Me Up" Classic British and European Car Show was a part of a larger event hosted by the Minnesota MG Group, called Rally in the Valley. Three days of activities started with a Thursday night social and ended with a skilled driving event Saturday.

Before the rally was over, attendees could get a look at the kinds of automobiles brought to the country by the end of World War II.

"A lot of service men brought these cars back home with them after the war was over," said Steve Rindt, member of the Minnesota MG Group. "The original MG, as everybody knows, in England the people drive on the other side of the roads. So, all the cars are right hand steer. The leaders of MG realized that there is a market for these cars in this country. So they built their first left hand drive car which is MG TD."

Organizers said you can really thank the British for the sports car craze in this country. The Minnesota MG Group is set to host another car show next year.
