Eau Claire’s Fairfax Pool extends its hours for Memorial Day weekend

Eau Claire (WQOW) — It’ll be hot this Memorial Day weekend, so Fairfax Pool is giving people plenty of time to cool off by extending its holiday hours.

Instead of being open from 2:00-6:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 26 the pool will be open from 1:00-7:00 p.m.. On Sunday May 27, it’ll be open from 1:30-7:00 p.m. and on Memorial Day Monday May 28, the pool will be open from 12:00-7:00 p.m

City officials told News 18, typically, Fairfax isn’t too busy over Memorial Day weekend, but they’re expecting a bigger crowd this year because of the extra warm weather.

So, crews are hard at work to make sure things are ready in time, but Mother Nature certainly isn’t doing them any favors.

"This year, because of the weather, usually we have a guy out here starting to get ready for the season by April 1. That didn’t happen until almost May 1 this year," said Chad Duerkop, the program and facility supervisor for the Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department.

"We usually have eight weeks to get the pool ready to go, and we had four weeks this year," Duerkop said.

The winter weather also took a toll on the public pool in Chippewa Falls.

Josh Kriesel told News 18 they can’t open up shop until the school year ends because it’s staffed mostly by high schoolers. Since snow days have extended the school year, they’ve also pushed back the pool’s opening date, but only by a couple of days.

They hope to be up and running by Saturday, June 9.
