UWEC chancellor hand-delivers diploma to grad in hospital

Eau Claire (WQOW) — UW-Eau Claire’s commencement ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, but already a Blugold has received his diploma.

Noah Draxler was supposed to walk across the stage on Saturday, but unfortunately he was forced to trade his black gown for a hospital gown after an unexpected medical emergency.

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Jim Schmidt heard about Draxler’s ordeal and showed up at the hospital on Friday, in full garb, to present him with his diploma. Draxler’s parents and swimming coach were also there to watch the impromptu graduation ceremony.

The rest of the UW-Eau Claire graduates will receive their diplomas on Saturday, with ceremonies scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
